Why barbershops are different
This is a strategy piece I wrote, not a client result. Barbershops live on regulars and a tiny service radius, so generic local SEO advice misses both. People search when they're ready to sit in the chair, with phrases like "haircut walk-ins today" or "beard trim open now", and then come back every few weeks.
The plan
- Work a 3 to 5 mile radius with neighborhood-level keywords, such as "best fade in Belleair Bluffs" or "hot towel shave Pinebrook Estates".
- Set up the Business Profile for walk-in hours, barber availability and seasonal posts.
- Target three groups: first-time local visitors, routine clients, and special-occasion bookings like weddings and interviews.
- Earn local links from nearby businesses, city blogs and team sponsorships.
- Put Google review QR codes at reception, the mirrors and the exit, and ask customers to mention the neighborhood. No discounts for reviews, since that breaks Google's rules.
